A Pilot’s Christmas Shopping List

Christmas is coming already and we all know what that means in this industry – lots of flights. We will be inundated with passengers onto our planes, we will have flight delays, airport queues and we will work flat out then straight to bed, then straight to work again. Christmas isn’t really that fun being a pilot believe me.

However, we still need to show our love for our partners, wives and children. Thankfully we can shop online now in between flights, from the internet in hotel rooms in cities we never get to see.

You can easily get your Christmas gifts online these days and here are a few of my favourites, for my wife and kids.

1.Gifts for your Wife
If you are looking for gifts for your Wife, you’ll need something to remind her that you love her and are always thinking of her. Chocolates are eaten and forgotten quickly. Flowers look and smell good for a week then they die. Perhaps look at something more permanent, here are a few tips.

  • Women’s Travel Organising Pack
Travel is complicated enough without getting shoe schmutz on your dress shirt, or fishing around in the bottom of your luggage as you try to find your tampons or charging cords. But it gets a lot easier when you’re using these stylish pouches from Jennifer Jansch. If you are planning a getaway with your wife, this will help her organise. This set of handy travel bags, each printed with a bold, black-and-white image of its content and sealed with a grosgrain ribbon are perfect ways to stay organised on the move. Use them to pack your shoes, blow dryer, lingerie, and laundry, and everything you need will be neatly contained, untangled and right where you need it.

  • Hand of Buddha Jewellery Stand
All women need a jewellery box or stand. Get them the Buddha Jewellery stand to make it easy and handy to access. The hands fit rings, lockets, necklaces and bracelets and add a sense of mystic quality to the room. It’s also a cool gift from your pilot adventures. With a hint of the Chinese about it, she’ll love this!

2.Gifts for your Children
Your children will miss you when you are away, so why not try and educate them on what you are doing while you are in the cockpit. Yes, you’re earning a good wage packet, but you’ve missed your kids growing up. Try and educate them about their home country and the countries you are flying to. Check out these Gifts for your children and here are my current favourites:

  • President’s Block Set
These quirky patriotic cubes have facial renderings of every U.S. President and they stack neatly into a perfect, forty-five piece set forming a grand American flag on one side. Each cube presents a face, name, nickname, lifespan, party affiliation, term and number in red, gray and blue ink. It’s educational and good fun!

  • United States Map
From California to the New York Island, this colorful United States map is made for you and your child. Adorned with the capitals, border outlines, landmarks and wildlife of each state, it’s perfect for teaching children about their home country – the United States of America. It is durable too as it is laminated on both sides for extra strength. This cool map includes 50 stickers to label where loved ones live, from the Redwood Forest all the way to Miami Beach – Alaska and Hawaii are included on insets. It also has sturdy grommets for hanging.

So as ever, pilots, don’t work too hard and look forward to that time at home with family. Treat them and let them know you care, no matter how many miles away you are. As an extra gift – how about booking a vacation with them? Where you are on the passenger side of the flight rather than in the cockpit!
